| 214 | Betsey Lince, daughter of 6-Aaron; named with her husband Jacob Lince as an heir and next of kin in her father's probate, according to an application for probate dated 2 Dec 1853, records in the Oswego County Surrogate's Court, Oswego, NY Elizabeth "Betsey" E. Barnard (8 Feb. 1801 Rennselaer Co., NY -- 9 Oct. 1876 Constantia, Oswego, NY; interred Constantia Center Cemetery, Constantia Center, Oswego, NY), per Joan Lince (e-mail to WMB 18 Aug. 2008) "Many different versions of Elizabeth (Barnard) Lince's date of birth are given in public records. Apparently she was older than her husband so at least in her younger years she probably didn't always feel comfortable about telling her age. In the 1875 Census, taken when Elizabeth was a widow, living alone, not long before she died, she told the census enumerator that she was 75, and this perhaps is the closest to the truth. But the earliest birth year that can be calculatedfrom her age given in censuses is 1790, from her age as 60 in the 1850 Census. "Elizabeth's birth year is given on her gravestone as 1801. Whoever ordered the gravestone probably depended on what Elizabeth had said about her birthdate, and could also have been influenced by the wish to keep up public appearances --- Elizabeth's stone was next to her husband's and the family might not have wanted to make too much of a point of the difference in their ages."--per Joan Lince (e-mail to WMB 18 Aug. 2008) Elizabeth married Jacob Lince (10 Apr. 1805 Oneida Co., NY -- 01 Oct. 1863 Constantia [?], Oswego, NY; interred Constantia Center Cemetery, Constantia Center, Oswego, NY), son of Henry Lince and Magdalena (Lana) Remore, ca. 1825, Oneida Co. (?), NY; Jacob was a farmer, per Joan Lince (e-mail to WMB 18 Aug. 2008) [Following census data and notes per Joan Lince (e-mail to WMB 18 Aug. 2008)] [The earlier censuses of the Lince family are shown following Jacob's record. [The probate file of Dorothy Rema (widow of Revolutionary soldier Jacob Rema) shows that a Jacob Lintz was among the grandchildren named as her heirs. The other grandchildren are children of Henry Lince, whose wife Lana had died before Dorothy Rema's probate. This file was found by Stephen Rima. The following land and census records suggest that the Jacob Lince of Constantia was this Jacob Lintz. The 1836 deed by which Jacob acquired land in Oswego County stated that he was from Rome, Oneida County. Census and other evidence shows that his older children were born in that county. The early census listings for Henry Lince in Rome, Oneida County, show the presence in his household of a male of Jacob's age, and that male no longer is included in the count in Henry's household in 1830, by which time Jacob was married. There is a listing of a Jacob Lince household in Rome in 1830 and 1835, but not in 1840. The 1830 census listing for Jacob Lince in the Town of Rome is only three households away from Henry's family. Others in the immediate neighborhood are Bartholomew Brodock, whose wife was a sister of Henry Lince's wife Magdalena (Lana) Remore; David Remore; and Peter Remore --- all suggesting Jacob's close relationship to Henry Lince and his wife Lana. In the 1835 census Jacob Lince is shown near Nickolas Damwood (his brother-in-law) and David Reman, as well as Henry Lince. To add support to the theory that the Jacob of Rome, Oneida was the same man as the Jacob of Constantia, Oswego, he is listed in the 1830 census in Rome on the same page as Aaron Barnard, and again in the 1840 census in Constantia on the same page as Aaron Barnard.
