Barnard, The Hartford Courant, 15 Jan. 1908, downloaded and transcribed 20 Nov. 2006: Edward C. Barnard Edward C. Barnard, age 87 years, died yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at the home of his nephew, B. B. Barnard in Bloomfield Center. Death was due to a general breaking down. Mr. Barnard was a farmer by occupation. He was born in Bloomfield and had loved [sic] there practically all his life. His wife died about four years ago, and since that time he had made his home with his nephew. His funeral will be at his home at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The burial will be in Bloomfield. Funeral notice of Edward C. Barnard, The Hartford Courant, 16 Jan. 1908, downloaded and transcribed 20 Nov. 2006: Edward C. Barnard The funeral of Edward Collins Barnard, who died Tuesday morning in Bloomfield, will be held at the home of his nephew, Byron B. Barnard, in that place this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Barnard was a native and lifelong resident of Bloomfield, and was in his 89th year. He was a son of Milton Barnard and the fourth child of a family of five children. His entire life had been devoted to farming and hunting, trapping and fishing during the seasons. Probably no other trapper has a record of snaring and trapping so many birds and quadrupeds. From early youth up it had been his favorite pastime and occupation, and he has traversed the mountains, plains and streams for a radius of ten or twenty miles around. He was fond of walking and a familiar sight was to see him trudging along gun, staff and traps, through the woods and along the streams. His greatest success lay in capturing black mink and he prided himself on being the champion mink catcher of the state. Partridge and other game was also bagged by him.. He was eccentric and lived a somewhat secluded life and even his nearest friends hardly knew him. Yet he had a noble generous heart for those he took a liking too [sic]. He was fond of music and played the violin with the soul of the old time violinist, kitchen dances and home parties being his frequent engagements. At the age of 76 he took up the harmonica and played to the entertainment of his friends, all of the popular and pleasing music of the day and kept up the accomplishment to a recent date. He would also tell hisexperiences as a trapper, which were of the most interesting character. His faithful wife, with whom he lived about fifty-six years, died four years ago, leaving him alone. They resided on the East Granby road near the Spoonville bridge and Mr. Barnard resided a short time after the death of his wife on the homestead, but later took up his residence with his nephew, B. B. Barnard. Although feeble Mr. Barnard's faculties were spared him until the end. The nearest relatives living are his nephew and family and Mrs. G. W. Willoughby and her family of Tariffville.
