She was born in Bloomfield, daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Walker) Barnard and was a lifelong resident of the community. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Bloomfield the Women's Guild of the church, and when Gale Memorial Hall was completed in the church she was instrumental in raising funds for the furnishings for the hall. She had been employed by the Bloomfield School System for several years. Hazel was a lover of all of God's creations. She found fulfillment and joy being with her family especially with her grandchildren. She also loved gardening and music. Hazel spent many summers at the family summer home at LakeWilloughby, VT. Her late husband, Herbert C. Beman died October 19, 1992. She is survived by a son, Herbert B. Beman and his wife, Dolores S. of Southwick, MA; and a daughter, Nancy B. Carbone and her husband, Paul J. of Chaplin; two sisters, Ruth Davis of Collinsville and Florrie Kraverotis of Bloomfield; ten grandchildren, Steven Beman, David Beman, Robert Beman, Linda B. Grabowski, Penny Brockett, Eben Brockett, Kevin Brockett, Patrick Carbone, Paul Carbone, Jr., and Linda Carbone; and fifteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Donald L. Beman; and two brothers, George Barnard and Robert Barnard. Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:45 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 SpringSt., Windsor Locks with a procession to the First Congregational Church in Bloomfield, 10 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield for services at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Huff officiating. Burial will be in Granby Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to the First Congregational Church in Bloomfield, 10 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield, CT 06002. He completed his medical course in 1874, at Miami Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio, his father's Alma Mater. He practiced one year with his father in Preston; then, in 1875, he located in Joplin, Missouri, and in March 1879, he moved to Silver Cliff, Colorado, where he engaged in the drug business and in the practice of medicine until September 1880 when, owing to ill health, and the fact that his drugstore and the greater part of the town of Silver Cliff were destroyed by fire, he moved to Jasper, Missouri, a new railroad town. Here he built the first building in the new town for a drug store. He had a suiteof rooms in this building fitted up for a residence. In July 1884, he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where, owing to continued ill health, he gave up the practice of medicine and engaged in the real estate business with his brother-in-law, Jewett Allin, until September 1885, when he moved to Carthage, Missouri, and in March 1886, he moved to Los Angeles, California. In 1890, he moved to Oakland, California, and in 1901 he located in San Francisco, where he continued in the real estate business to the end of his life. PINNEY, deceased, was born in Connecticut in 1815, son of Elijah and Mahala (Grant) Pinney, the latter of Scotch extraction. The former came to Erie County about 1838, settling in Mill Creek Township with his father, who was a farmer. Our subject taught school for sixteen winters in early life, in this county, but by occupation was a farmer through life. In 1844 he moved to Greene Township, this county, where he was a Justice of the Peace twenty-five years. Our subject married, in 1842, Mrs. Sarah Shannon, daughter of William Saltsman. To this union were born six children, five now living: A. S. and E. H., twins, the latter a resident of Michigan, dealer in real estate, owner of 982 acres of valuableland; A. M., a farmer in Mill Creek Township; Rose E., at home; Kate M., wife of Dr. W. K. Byron, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. A. S. Pinney is a dealer in hardware, farming implements, wagons, carriages, etc., etc., on Peach street, Erie. He was born in Erie County, March 23, 1845, and acquired his education in the Belle Valley School and Erie Academy. His first occupation was clerking, and he is now proprietor of a first-class hardware store, which he is estimably well calculated to manage, having a practical knowledge of all its details. A. S. Pinney was married, in Erie City, in 1869, to Minnie Morse, born in New York State, daughter of A. A. Morse, a resident of Wisconsin. To this union there is one child---Nellie, born April 22, 1871. In politics Mr. Pinney is a Democrat. Our subject, Horace Pinney, died Feb. 20, 1878. In politics he was a Democrat. His widow is yet living in Erie County, now in her seventy-third year. [Horace] L. Pinney bought a farm in Greene in 1843, and moved there the next year. E. O. The first two are cousins of Martin Pinney and his brother Elisha Pinney, of McKean. Their fathers were twins, and looked so much alike that they could scarcely be told apart by their wives.
