There are two Aaron Barnards, and both of the appropriate age, with families living in NY, both in Oneida Co., enumerated in the 1820 census: Aaron Barnard, Lee, Oneida, NY, p. 165: 111110-20110 02, i. e.. 1 male 0 to 10 years of age 1 male 10 to 16 years of age 1 male 16 to 18 years of age 1 male 16 to 26 years of age [supposed to include the 16-18s] 1 male 26 to 45 years of age [Aaron} 2 females 0 to 10 years of age 1 female 16 to 26 years of age 1 female 26 to 45 years ofage [Aaron's wife] 2 individuals are engaged in agriculture, commerce, and manufacture Aaron Barnard, Deerfield, Oneida, NY , p. 238: 120010-32010 02 1 male 0 to 10 years of age 2 males 10 to 16 years of age 1 male 26 to 45 years of age [Aaron} 3 females 0 to 10 years of age 2 female 16 to 26 years of age 1 female 26 to 45 years of age [Aaron's wife] 2 individuals are engaged in agriculture, commerce, and manufacture
1830 federal census, Rome, Oneida, NY, p. 400, lists Aaron Barnard with family composed as follows: 1 male under 5 years 1 male 5 to under 10 years [This may be 7-Aaron b. ca. 1822] 1 male 15 to under 20 years 1 male 50 to under 60 years [6-Aaron] 1 female 10 to under 15 years 1 female 15 to under 20 years 1 female 50 to under 60 years [Aaron's wife Elizabeth]
1840 federal census, Constantia, Oswego Co., p. 202, lists Aaron Barnard with family composed as follows: 1 male 15 to under 20 years [This may be 7-Aaron b. 1822] 1 male 60 to under 70 years [6-Aaron] 1 female 15 and under 20 years [Aaron's wife is NOT listed]
Aaron Barnard married Elizabeth (Unknown), per 1850 federal census.
Aaron Barnard married Elizabeth Mills ( - ), per Stephen J. Meyer (e-mail to WMB 9 June 2002)
In the 1850 federal census an Aaron Barnard and his wife Elizabeth were listed along with their daughter Maria. In the 1855 New York State census for Constantia, New York, Elizabeth Barnard, 79 years of age, born in CT, is living with a Thomas Russell with his wife Maria, born Oneida, both 27. It would appear that Aaron had died sometime between the 1850 federal census and the 1855 New York State census and that Maria had married Thomas Russell, per Dallas Barnard [CONSIDERING THE AGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ELIZABETH AND MARIA--50 YEARS--MARIA MAY HAVE BEEN A GRAND-DAUGHTER--WMB]
Elizabeth would have been born ca. 1776, the same year as 6-Aaron, and, inasmuch as 6-Aaron's brother Adonijah ended upin Oneida Co., it seems reasonable that 6-Aaron also moved to Oneida Co., and married Elizabeth--WMB
The 1850 census for Constantia, NY: Dwelling #221 Aaron Barnard, 74, male, retired, $1000, born CT Elizabeth " , 73, female, born NY Maria " , 25, female, born NY Dwelling #222 Jabez Barnard, 46, male, farmer, $1000, born NY Cornelia " , 41, female, born NY Frances " , 14, female, born NY Franklin " , 10, male, born NY Decates " , 7, male, born NY Hellen " , 5, female, born NY Winfield " , 2, male, born NY
"On my most recent trip to Syracuse and that area, I went to Constantia to see what I could find about about the marriage of Huldah and James. They were Baptist so I found the old Baptist Church at Canstantia Center. In the graveyard thereare only a few Barnards. I thought there may be a connection with the Barnards there and Huldah since she was married there. It just so happens that the Barnard buried there is Aaron Barnard born in 1776, I think this is the Aaron Barnard that you were looking for in you message of July 7, 2001. You probably have long since gathered much info on this Aaron since you posted this message. If not I'll tell you what I found as I searched for Aaron to see if he could be the father of my Huldah. You have confirmed what I suspected that Aaron is the Son of Aaron Barnard b. 1750, twin of Moses!!
"This Aaron's tombstone reads Aaron Barnard d. 3 Nov 1853 aged 77 yrs, 4 mos., 26 days. Next to him is his wife, Elizabeth, wife of Aaron Barnard d. 8 Dec. 1867 aged 90 years, (7 mos.) 8 days. The graves are near the front of the cemetery along the road if you want to find them. Elizabeth's maiden name was Mills. i then went to the tiny West Monroe Historical center and found some census records for Aaron and Elizabeth.
"In the 1830 census they were in Rome, Oneida Co. In the 1850 census, I found the following info. Aaron was 74, retiredb. in CT. His wife Elizabeth was 73, b. in NY. They had a Moria, 25, b. in NY living with them. This may have been a granddaughter or ?
"Next door was their son, Jabez, 46, farmer, b. in NY with his wife Cornelia, 41, b. in NY and their children, Frances,14, female; Franklin, 10; Decates, 7, male; Hellen, 5; and Winfield, 2, male. Jabez and family are also in the 1860 census for Constantia. In 1855 census Jabez and family have last name misspelled as "Bankard". Also in the 1855 census under "Bernhard" there are two Aarons, Elizabeth, and many others.
"In1870 Jabez is 67, Cornelia must be dead, and Jabez is living with his son, Franklin, 30, Franklin's wife, Louisa, 20; and there children, Ida, 2; and Frances, 5 mos, female. They are still in Constantia. Aaron and Elizabeth also had a daughter, Lucy who married a "Fielding". She died in Rochester, 25 Mar 1839. It says "Daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth Barnard."---per Stephen Meyer, 704 E. Main St., Ottawa, IL 61350, sjmeyer1@juno.com (e-mail to WMB 9 June 2002)
