Born in Hartford, the son of the late James W. and Alice (Barnard) Howard, he had lived inEnfield for many years before coming to Vernon eight years ago. Mr. Howard was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter No. 52 and the V.F.W. Post 1501, Thompsonville. Mr. Howard was a Truck Driver for 40 years with Teamster locals no. 404 and no. 449, and had been the Union Steward for local no. 404. He was a member of Euclid Lodge No. 109, AF&AM, Pythagoras-Wells Chapter No. 17, R.A.M., Wolcott Council No. 1, R.&S.M., Washington Commandry No. 1, K.T. , Sphinx Temple Shrine, and Ionic Chapter O.E.S. Besides his wife, he leaves ten children; six step-children; two brothers, Robert Howard of El Cahon, CA, and Allan Howard of WarehousePoint; two sisters, Louise Heald and Florence Stimpson, both of Enfield; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 30, 10 a.m., at the Ladd-Turkington Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Route 83),Vernon, with the Rev. Arthur Dunham officiating.
