Obituary of Sylvia Irene Barnard, published in the Hartford Courant 5 March 2002: Sylvia Irene "Sib" Barnard Sylvia Irene "Sib" Barnard, of Windsor, died Sunday, (March 3, 2002) at a local nursing home. She was born in Hartford, 1905, daughter of the late George C. and Irene (Nichols) Barnard, early residents of Blue Hills Ave., Hartford, and was educated in Hartford public schools. She retired in 1970 from Pratt & Whitney, division of UTC, and was previously 20 years with the Greater Hartford Community Chest, now United Way. A member of Wilson Congregational Church, Windsor, and a former a member of the Blue Hills Baptist Church, Hartford. She is survived by two brothers, G. Robert Barnard of Salem, and William and his wife Beverly Barnard of Niantic; nieces, Susan Chamberlin of Windsor, Nancy Leonard of Bakersfield, CA, Kathleen Sass of West Hartford, and Christine Castaldi of West Linn, OR; nephews, Bruce Barnard of Windsor, Carl Barnard of East Hartford, and Peter Barnard of East Hartland; and many great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara B. Tobin, with whom she had lived with for many years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 6, 11 a.m., in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, with the Rev. Edith O'Donnell officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends Wednesday, 10-11 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
