We here consider the immediate descendants of Joseph Barnard and Abigail Griswold, the chief progentors of most of the Barnards of Ancient Windsor.

Assorted listings give six to nine children: Stiles, II, p. 58 lists six; Hinman [probably R. R. Hinman, A Cat. Of the Names of the Early Puritan Settlers of the Colony of Conn.---WMB] (according to Stiles) mentions seven; WAB and Ed Barnard each list the same eight; and goofball@compuserve.com lists nine. Still to be resolved is whether there was an Edwardand/or an Ebenezer, or a single individual, Edward Ebenezer, and some dates.

In her will dated 5 December 1747, Abigail names seven children: sons Joseph, Edward, Francis, and daughters Abigail, Sarah, Ann, and Rebeckah.
