"Mr. Denig has had a distinguished career in the U.S. Marine Corps, being commissioned a Second Lieutenant Sept. 29, 1905, and advancing through the various grades to Brigadier General June 1, 1940. He saw service in World Wars I & II and has been awarded numerous medals and decorations. These include the Legion of Merit, Legion of Honor, Croix de Guerre with palms, Presidential Medal of Merit (Nicaragua), Navy Cross, and Purple Heart, among others.
