"Like his father, Mr. Denig has had a noteworthy career in the U.S. Marine Corps. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in 1932, he served with distinction during World War II. As a Lieutenant Colonel he was awarded the Legion of Merit 'forexceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government while serving as Commanding Officer of a Marine Tank Battalion in action against the enemy on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Islands, from 1 April to 21 June 1945...'
