BARNARD, Elsie (Dresser) Elsie (Dresser) Barnard, 85, wife of Norman M. Barnard, died Friday, (March 19, 2004). Daughter of the late Wilfred H. and Clare (Plummer) Dresser, she was born and raised in Hartford and was a graduate of the Oxford School, class of 1936. Following her marriage, she resided in Bloomfield where she was an active member of the First Congregational Church, serving on the Diaconate and Women's Guild. She was an avid reader who advocated lifelong learning through books. Besides her loving husband of 57 years, she is survived by her children, Trudy Barnard of Windsor Locks, Douglas D. Barnard and his wife Diana of Bloomfield, and Earl C. Barnard and his wife Lucinda of West Hartford; two grandchildren, Clare M. and James R. Barnard of West Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Earl H. and Raleigh A. Dresser. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, 10 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, Bloomfield. Published in the HartfordCourant from 3/24/2004 - 3/25/2004.
