Although some contributors suggested that Lydia died in infancy, WMB has found no evidence for her early demise and, tothe contrary, has found suggestions that she lived to maturity, married, and had at least one child.
If Lydia had died in infancy, the event would probably have been recorded in the Simsbury vital records and/or in Stiles, II, p. 59, both of which tend to list deaths that occur shortly after birth--yet neither mentions her death.
A family group pedigree for Francis Barnard of Simsbury compiled by Claudina R. Sweet, P. O. Box 926, Murphys, CA 95247-0926, and included in Everton's Family File Vol. 4, Disk 1, lists Lydia Barnard born 23 Feb. 1746, AND MARRIED TO MARTIN MOSES, with a comment "Moses Win G.", which may mean "Moses Windsor Genealogy", a possible reference to Moses, Zebina,1890, Historical Sketches of John Moses, of Plymouth, a Settler of 1632 to 1640; John Moses, of Windsor and Simsbury, aSettler Prior to 1647; and John Moses, of Portsmouth, a Settler Prior to 1640. Also A Genealogical Record of Some of Their Descendants: Press of The Case, Lockwood & Brainard Company, Hartford, Conn., 2 vols., 298 pages.
Family Tree Maker WFT Ped. #2280, Vol. 3, lists a Martin Moses born in 1743. Another, Family Tree Maker WFT Ped. #4523,Vol. 7, gives his dates as (1743 - 1766), and MARRIED TO LIDIA (UNKNOWN). Similarly, matt2@dnaco.net, Ancestry.com File#10777, gives Martin Moses (1743 - 1766) as MARRIED TO LYDIA (UNKNOWN). This Martin Moses is a grandson of John Moses of Windsor/Simsbury in these pedigrees. He was of the right age (three years older than Lydia) and probable place (if he didn't stray too far from his grandfather's hometown) to meet and marry Lydia.
Another possible line of evidence is seen in the name of Lydia's brother Moses' grandson, Martin Moses Barnard (1809 - 1876). This grandson is the first "Martin" in the line (excluding Martin Moses "Jr.", son of Martin Moses and Lydia, whowould have been an uncle to Martin Moses Barnard), and while 5-Moses Barnard was his grandfather, which might argue forthe Moses part of his name, the juxtaposition of the names "Martin Moses" is probably more than just coincidental.
Still another suggestive line of evidence is the fact that the three witnesses to the will of Lemuel Roberts of Simsbury, CT, dated 9 Apr. 1770, were, in order, Francis Barnard Jr., Lydia Moses, and Aaron Barnard: these apparently are three children of Francis Barnard Sr., listed in order of decreasing age. The will is reproduced on pages 12-14 of Starr, Frank Farnsworth, 1896, The Roberts family of Simsbury, Connecticut: publisher unknown, Hartford, 58 pages; downloaded from 31 May 2004 by WMB
On the basis of the above, Lydia married Martin Moses (1743 - 1766).
