- EXPLANATION: Alfred is "of Simsbury", born ca. 1811. Barnard heads of households living in Simsbury in 1810 were Ebenezer, Francis, George, [James] Harvey, Milton, Oliver, and Samuel; in 1820 there were the following, with number of males less than 10 years of age and their identification if known: Ebenezer (0), Francis (0), George (0), James H. (2 [James Harvey Jr.; Walter), Oliver (2 [unidentified]), Samuel (0), and Judah (1 [Judah Harrison]). Milton was residing in Windsor in 1820 with two sons less than 10 years (Calvin Lines; Edward Collins). Inasmuch as Oliver is the only one with unidentifed sons less than 10 years of age in 1820, he is the most plausible father of Alfred.
Alfred is enumerated in the 1840 federal census, Springfield, Hampden, MA, Roll M704_185, p. 50; Alfred is the 1 male 20 to less than 30 years

New info downloaded 4 Nov. 2007: "None of the births of his [Oliver's] children are found in the Simsbury VR. The Hubbell family file on Rootsweb lists Phelps b. Abt. 1808 and Alfred b. Abt. 1811 as 2 of the sons of Oliver. I believe that the Pauline Barnard b. Abt 1810 who married Sidney Crawford Abt. 1840 and the Elizabeth R. _____ b. Abt. 1805 who married Samuel D. Sizer Abt. 1833 may be the two daughters of Oliver Barnard. Would appreciate any bible, probate or other records that could identify the children of Oliver Barnard."---per K. W. Wilson, posted at
